A powerful photographic exhibition debuting at Coogee Live in 2025, celebrating Cockburn’s unique spirit through portraits of our remarkable residents captured by acclaimed photographer Nic Duncan.
With a passion for storytelling through her lens, Nic invites us into the lives of people deeply connected to Cockburn, honoring their dedication to community and the often unseen acts of generosity that nurture a thriving, multicultural urban city.
This unique project weaves together the diverse, multifaceted stories of Cockburn’s residents—those who, beyond their everyday commitments, live to support and uplift the people around them.
Nic Duncan is a professional photographer, living on Bibbulmun Boodja, and working throughout Western Australia.
She’s been WA Portrait Photographer of the Year, a three-times finalist in the National Photographic Portrait Prize with images exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, and had a year-long solo exhibition on Yagan Tower in Perth featuring 100 portraits taken in rural, regional and remote parts of WA which was viewed by over one million people.
The State Library of Western Australia has established a collection in her name, and acquires her portraits to be held in perpetuity. She strives to tell stories through her portraits, seeking out and enjoying deep, intrinsic connections with the people she photographs.
