Maaman Weitj – Noongar Lullabies From Swan is performed by the Moorditij Maaman Men’s Group and produced by Community Arts Network (CAN).
Led by Noongar artists Kobi Arthur Morrison and Cyndy Moody, the performers wrote and recorded their own lullabies as a way of preserving the Noongar language for current and future generations.
Noongar Lullabies From Swan is the eighth iteration of CAN’s Lullabies project.
CAN is an arts producer working at the forefront of Community Arts and Cultural Development (CACD). For almost 40 years, CAN has partnered with communities to share stories, histories and experiences that are unwritten or unspoken. Making visible the invisible, this work breaks through the silence arising from systemic disempowerment to share the daily acts of resistance and resilience that underpin survival in underrepresented communities.
Through this process CAN creates compelling art and storytelling that has broad reach beyond the communities where it is produced, realising the vision of a creatively dynamic, inclusive Australia. Working with artists skilled in community practice, CAN creates positive social change through the arts, building inclusion and understanding between people.
