The sculpture exhibition along the sun-drenched shores of the ocean will be a vibrant celebration of creativity and sustainability, showcasing remarkable works crafted by local youth and community groups from recycled and reused materials.

Each piece will stand as a testament to imagination and resourcefulness, transforming discarded items into stunning art that reflects both the beauty of the coastal environment and the pressing need for environmental awareness.

Renowned multidisciplinary artist and photographer Sandy Mckendrick will exhibit her own piece alongside the sculptures created by local community groups. The winning group will receive a half day workshop facilitated by Sandy.

Keen to showcase your own piece of sculptural art? Follow the guidelines and registration instructions below!

Guidelines:

  • Entries must be from a youth or community group, school or social group
  • Open to all ages
  • Sculpture needs to a minimum of 1 meter high
  • Must be a sculpture made from one of the following to further reinforce the message of environmental stewardship: recycled/reused/repurposed/discarded materials or natural materials (driftwood etc.)
  • Must be able to be displayed on the beach at Coogee Live should you be chosen to display your idea
  • The statue needs to be durable against the elements because of its location
  • Needs to be transportable
  • We will secure your works and arrange display * Please note that due to the natural environment whilst we will do our utmost to protect it we cannot be held liable for any damage.

 

How To Register:

  • Please submit one proposal to include a sketch of your idea, list of materials you intend to use and your inspiration behind this art piece to he***@bu************.au
  • Please include the name and size of your group and the best contact phone number and email
  • Registrations close : 6th December 2024
  • Chosen sculptures will be notified on : 10th December 2024

About Sandy Mckendrick

Sandy is a multidisciplinary artist and photographer who integrates animation, photography, and video into her work. She has independently and collaboratively designed exhibitions for events like the Perth International Arts Festival, Cocos and Christmas Islands, and France’s UNIMA World Puppet Festival.

Her company’s performances, including Turtle and the Trade Winds, Cry of the Seadragon, Indigo Sand, and Djapu’s Journey, have toured both nationally and internationally. Sandy is deeply committed to working with remote communities in Australia and abroad, creating artistic and theatrical experiences where access is limited.

She has contributed to Perth Festival as a designer and artist, developing installations and community-driven exhibitions, and performed with four international companies during the festival. Sandy has also crafted costumes, sets, and puppets for prominent theater companies such as Barking Gecko and Spare Parts Puppet Theatre, and her own productions.

Her festival experience spans over 30 years, featuring roles in performance, design, coordination, and construction across Australian festivals from Christmas Island to the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
