Reclaim the Void Workshop

Reclaim the Void Workshop

Did you know: Australia is the second largest consumer of new textiles in the world and around 800,000 tons of textile are discarded and landfilled in Australia every year!
Let’s repurpose some of this discarded textile waste for the inspirational, caring for country, and community engagement project: Reclaim the Void project.

Join our Cockburn Waste Education team on Saturday 9th March at 2.30pm our “Reclaim the Void” Circular Rugs weaving workshop at Coogee Live.

The project

The project aims to create a large-scale ‘dot’ artwork made up of thousands of handmade circular rag-rugs woven from discarded fabric to place on country affected by mining. Woven by people from all walks of life and backgrounds, the rugs will be joined together into a giant textile artwork which shows an overall pattern that carries the story of the Tjukurrpa of country on which mining takes place.

What to expect: A fun, and very relaxed atmosphere.

No experience required

You don’t need prior experience or any amazing crafting abilities, just an interest in learning and sharing and connecting.

Event is free but registrations are required.
